Industry plays a central role in economic development. It improves the economy's production capability and the business sector's ability to compete internationally. Industry also creates infrastructure for new workplaces, increases added value, and proposes effective solutions for the particular needs of the country's economy. Data on this topic were generated from two main sources: an annual manufacturing survey that is based on financial reports to the tax authorities and a monthly survey of manufacturing indices. The manufacturing survey is published later than the manufacturing indices survey because of the lag between the end of the tax year and the filing of the reports to the tax authorities.
